GOD’S WAY, PEOPLE’S WILL, LET’S OBEY – By Kayode Arigbede
Party members in the State and surprisingly, the Ekiti Kete in the diaspora had been on tenterhooks for quite a while, waiting for the “drivers” of our great party, APC in Ekiti State, to present a saleable and worthy candidate for the 2022 governorship election. In a way, the waiting has been long and tortuous. The political environment was almost polluted with a miasma of rumors and a series of permutations. People are also relentlessly watching out for the “Oracle” to give a direction, yet there has been no single or categorical statement that leads to a direction.
However, going by people’s body language and reactions so far, the informed direction towards Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO), the Secretary to the State Government, (SSG) no doubt dovetails perfectly with popular expectations of the majority of party members and Ekiti people home and abroad. In every contest for political power, there would be a preferred choice based on some strategic reasons just as there would be those who may have to wait for another opportunity in a turn-by-turn political arrangement like ours.
It’s said and I believe that only God gives power and He alone has the unassailable authority to enthrone a leader when it pleases Him. Nursing a political ambition is quite legitimate, but the ageless truth is that such ambition without divine or heavenly approval will eternally remain a pipe dream. And when the enigmatic God chooses anyone for a leadership position, extraneous factors like physical outlook, pedigree, status, gender, ability to manouver, and other superficial variables may mean nothing to Him. That is why He is an Omnipotent God.
Further to this, there’s a difference between PERFECT will & PERMISSIVE will of God. For a better understanding of my assertion here, let’s jolly take a ride to the Holy Bible, the most enduring object of inspiration, the secret of wisdom and divine compass for the diligent. Absalom and Adonijah, the two sons of King David each had the ambition to take over leadership from their aged father as the king of Israel. But much as they tried even with the deployment of subterfuge, a cocktail of intrigues, pseudo-human relations, and all manner of veneer conducts, yet a Solomon, who ordinarily could be considered a product of inappropriate relationship got the crown.
Similarly, when God commanded Prophet Samuel to anoint one of the sons of Jesse to be king over Israel and as a replacement for the rejected Saul, the striking and forceful personalities of the likes of Eliab, Abinadab, and Shammah, were not enough to stop the choice of that “small boy” called David in the wilderness of providence as the king of Israel.
Brethren, the sum and substance of my submission here is that as Biodun Oyebanji is already considered to be the popular choice of the people and across parties and zones, as tailor-made for the great responsibility, yes, responsibility, it, therefore, behooves all loyal and patriotic members of our great party to give him a ‘shot in the arm’ for the real political contest ahead if we are indeed serious about the CONTINUITY slogan of the party.
From all indications, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, BAO will be a good sell to the good people of Ekiti State across all boards and political diversity. He is accessible, kind, generous, and above all a listener. He is the most acceptable interface between the government of Dr. Kayode Fayemi and the good people of Ekiti State. He’s an intelligent and experienced bureaucrat in the business of democratic governance.
Now the question to ask is: Who is Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji? He’s an Ikogosi born teacher and politician, in Ekiti West Local Govt Area of Ekiti State. He is a graduate of Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti now Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti where he bagged a degree in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Political Science with specialization in International Relations and Strategic Studies from the prestigious University of Ibadan. He has traversed a gamut of human endeavors over the years, ranging from academics, banking, farming and community service .
He began his public service career as a Special Assistant and later Special Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs to the first Civilian Governor of Ekiti State, H.E, Otunba Niyi Adebayo between 1999 and 2000, Chief of Staff to same Governor between 2001 and 2003, Chairman, Governing Board of Citizenship and Leadership Training Center in the Federal Ministry of Youth Development between 2009 and 2010, Commissioner for Integration & Inter-Governmental Affairs between 2010 & 2011, Pioneer Head, Office of Transformation, Strategy & Delivery (OTSD), Ekiti State between 2011 & 2013, Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning and Service Delivery, Ekiti State, between 2013 & 2014. He was at one time the Secretary of the Committee for the creation of Ekiti State in 1996.
He is currently the Secretary of Ekiti State Government.
With the above intimidating but impressive political pedigree, needless to say, that, the proposed choice of BAO as a worthy successor to Dr. John Kayode Fayemi is not a product of impulsive or flippant decision, but that of painstaking and thoughtful consideration. In all his years in public office, he is adjudged as
Brilliant, Accomplished, and Outstanding.
He is a man of many parts. Apart from bearing names that are patently prophetic and that foretell destiny with emblems of royalty, honor, and festivity, Biodun is a man of prolific imagination. He is suave, cultivated, genial, brilliant, and personable.
He is a very good friend of the masses with a great capacity for service and hard work. He is not only a man of spartan discipline, he is unapologetically forthright and balanced in his thinking. A self-respecting gentleman, who possesses both local and national appeal. He maintains his lane without flexing muscles with anyone in the political space.
BAO’s propensity to give to the poor and needy within and outside the office is legendary. To him, the compassionate action of generous and sacrificial giving is a language people understand better and faster than political jargon. A happy family man with a deep sense of contentment. His modest contributions to the creation of Ekiti State which was publicly acknowledged recently, are not only safe in the hearts of men but equally in the custody of history.
BAO is one of the few Political Officeholders who doesn’t carry airs. A loyal and committed party icon. Given the foregoing, please join me to welcome him on board of the APC Gubanatorial contest.
God bless APC. God bless Ekiti State. God bless Nigeria. God bless you all.
